Description
This belongs to a friend, who still owes me the $20.00 for correctly identifying and describing its use. LOL This was used by persons who used to cut ice blocks out of lake ice, and when in blocks, had to be retrieved from the frigid waters, and this is what they used. While rusty, it is still sturdy and very usable. But, then when one has a refrigerator that makes ice cubes, why bother. What a collector piece!

Thanks Joan, as they used these to take the ice blocks out of the lakes, after they cut them into cubes. Unique old piece of hardware, which I have never seen exactly like this before.

You got that right, Mary! My buddy said he would give me 5 dollars if I could tell him what this was, and I nailed it right on the head. Still haven't seen the 5 bucks! They would use large saws to saw blocks of ice out of the frozen lakes, then use this to grab them with, and usually pull them out with horses, or lots of guys on a bender! LOL Hope you have a happy and prosperous new year, my friend! Forever, Elvis

Thanks much, Will, as my best friend asked me if I knew what it was and bet me 5 dollars I didn't know. I knew, but still haven't got paid in cash, but lots of friendship and camaraderie is worth more than the 5 dollars to me. lol This was a larger version that was used to actually take the chunks out of the ice in the water, that they cut, then the ice man comes, with his smaller tongs to deliver to your old ice box, not like our refrigerators of today. He and I became good friends, especially on very hot summer days, when I begged ice chips from him. lol
