This was the first i took of our new sub zero hibiscus. We used to love the hibiscus flowers, but in WI winters, had to bring them in in winter, and sometimes they would get "white flies" on them. They are white and about the size of a fruit fly, and you need to use systemic insecticide, which kills them quickly, but then you need to wash off each individual leaf.
These we found, and planted in the "Little Graceland" gardens two years ago, and when we thought they were dead in the spring, we cut them back, which was okay as the "sprung" forth from the ground, not the branches, and were as beautiful as they were the first year of planting. Plants or "bushes" got about 6 feet tall with about a 100 or more blossoms per plant. Love them!
As a retired teacher, having taught for 35 years, I spend a lot of time in our many flower gardens, with water features, metal sculptures, and many flowering trees, bushes and shrubs. My wife gave me a digital camera for a Christmas present a few years ago, and I started taking photos of the many types of flora and fauna on our property. This became an enjoyable hobby for me, to enjoy the outdoors, and capture some of the beautiful photo opportunities that our gardens have provided. I especially love close-ups of flowers and insects, and basically anything that has something unique to capture on film.
