As a retired teacher, having taught for 35 years, I spend a lot of time in our many flower gardens, with water features, metal sculptures, and many flowering trees, bushes and shrubs. My wife gave me a digital camera for a Christmas present a few years ago, and I started taking photos of the many types of flora and fauna on our property. This became an enjoyable hobby for me, to enjoy the outdoors, and capture some of the beautiful photo opportunities that our gardens have provided. I especially love close-ups of flowers and insects, and basically anything that has something unique to capture on film. I have entered several contests in our area, and even won some recognition with my photos. I have posted on Face Book and am now...

Thanks Christiane, as I love them too, and while we used to raise them as patio plants, and then have to bring them in during the cold winter months, we planted some "sub zero" hibiscus plants last year, and while I though they had died, I now know why they survive the cold. They do not blossom or leaf out on the stems, but you cut them back, and they restart from underground, and last summer they were awesome, surviving the Wisconsin winters.

Very beautiful close-up Randy..........love Hibiscus booms they are so pretty :-) (F/L)

Thanks much, Mitch, as we gave a go at sub zero hibiscus plants that can withstand Wisconsin winters, without having to dig up and bring inside.

Actually, they are a tropical plant, but in Wisconsin, if you have a tropical plant you have to bring it indoors for the winter. This past year I purchased 3 "sub zero" hibiscus plants, and they survived the cold winter, but they do not come from the stems of leaves like usual, but from underground, so they looked dead, but then all of a sudden a thriving plant came up and produced dinner plate sized pink, white, and red Florals. Check it out on the internet. Pretty awesome!
